Grown mushrooms have a distinctive phallic shape, with thick, dense stems and bulbous caps – thus the name “Penis Envy”. Their caps are usually a golden-brown color, and the stems are white to off-white. Grown mushrooms show minimal gill formation and opening. Gills are often filled with purplish brown spores, but do not show significant discharge.
